About Tina Broussard

I was born and raised in California, moving around the state to various Marine Corps bases.   I spent every minute I could find horses to hang around, drawing them when I couldn’t get my hands on them. The public schools had wonderful art programs and teachers who encouraged and helped sharpen my skills in drawing and working with clay.  As an adult working on the harness-horse racing circuit, I continued drawing and doing some small-scale sculpting.  I met and married a horseshoer from Texas and in 1981 we moved to his home state.  We settled in Smithville, raised two boys and a variety of goats.

In 1982 I started working at Deep In The Heart Art Foundry in Bastrop.  I learned all the aspects of lost-wax casting, making molds, pulling and chasing waxes, sprueing, pouring, finishing the metal and doing patinas.  Exposure to a variety of artworks reawakened childhood fantasies of being an artist and I’ve indulged them ever since.

Sculpting in clay and wax, I cast decorative and functional art pieces in bronze, stainless steel, silver and gold.  Some pieces are molded to allow for limited editions, some are cast as one-of-a-kind.

My style is diverse, ranging from realistic to contemporary.  Ceramics experience was improved with lessons at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina and with the Quezada family in Mata Ortiz, Mexico.  I use clay mined on our property for my ceramic art.  Classes on sculpting people, focusing on portraiture, were taken with internationally renowned artist Willy (Wei Li) Wang of Houston, Texas.  We learned techniques doing full-figure, bas-relief and bust designs.  I also produce photography and mixed-media 2-D and 3-D pieces.

I’m an active member of the Lost Pines Artisans Alliance in Smithville, the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild in Bastrop, the Texas Society of Sculptors and the Willy Wang Workshop.  I’ve participated in shows locally and in Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Fredricksburg and Clute, Texas.  My work is in galleries in Smithville, Bastrop, Fredricksburg and Round Top, Texas.
