About Clint Howard

A 5th-generation Texan, Clint Howard was born in San Marcos and grew up working in his family’s construction business.  He studied sculpture and jewelry at Texas State University, where he drew on his familiarity with tools and machinery to earn a position as a teaching assistant for the sculpture department where he ran the university’s foundry for 3 years.

In 1999, Clint left school to purchase a little foundry in Bastrop, Texas, in the hopes of facilitating his personal art career.  Under his leadership, Deep in the Heart Art Foundry has thrived and is now recognized as one of the top such facilities in the country.

In recent years Clint has created a life-size bronze moose for the Columbus Ohio Zoo, a heroic-scale bronze firefighter entitled “In Moments Valor” for the Bastrop Fire Department and the iconic Buc-ee beaver found all around Texas at most Buc-ee’s locations.  He has also served as the project manager and art director for several monumental art projects, including the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veteran’s Monument, a larger-than-life Phantom Warrior statue for Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, and the 12-foot high class ring at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Clint joined of the Board of Directors for TSOS in 2016.  Prior to that, he had served 3 years as a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Workforce Commission, was a founding member of the Bastrop Art in Public Places Board, and president of the Lost Pines Art Council.
