The Austin Sculpture Center Student and Faculty Exhibit 2003
Sculpture Awards Night
Juror's Statement
We did not consider the work of faculty or accomplished artists for
prizes. We recommend that a separate category be established in the
future for accomplished artists. The Jurors did not consider for prizes
any uncompleted works or works in an impermanent media. We wish to
thank our generous donor who funded the cash prizes and for her encouragement
to the students of the Austin Sculpture Center. Signed,
Bob Coffee, Dan Hawkins, and Mary Paige Huey, Jurors
[Note: The jurors defined "accomplished artist" as one who, although taking classes at ASC, actively sells his or her sculptural art and even accepts commissions.] Media Awards are also referred to as the Kathrin Heard Leigh Sculpture Awards. (Thanks to a generous donation of award monies made in her name. This $500 donation to the Austin Sculpture Center was made with the stipulation that no award monies from this fund be used for other than student awards.)
Also many thanks to Armadillo Clay of Austin for supplying the $50 gift certificate for sculpture supplies for The People's Choice Award. Please call Armadillo anytime you need art supplies. They want to be a local supplier for us, but they need to know what kinds of materials we need.
