On December 4th, 2009 Austin will celebrate its first annual Austin Visual Arts Awards at the Austin Museum of Art. The Austin Visual Arts Association (AVAA) is honored to organize this event. The intent is “to recognize our top local artists and other leaders in the city’s visual art fields: to develop, expand and promote Austin’s role as a leading arts city; and to document our leading artists in the contemporary arts field for current and historical purposes.”
AVAA contacted our organization to solicit our nominees. The TSOS Board submitted the following nominees:
- Artist of the Year: Two Dimensional Art – Cindy Debold, Doug Jaques, and Greg Rainford
- Artist of the Year: Photography & Printmaking - Mary Paige Huey and Bill Oakey
- Artist of the Year: Three Dimensional Art - Bob Coffee, David Everett, and Hank Waddell
- Artist of the Year: New Media Arts* (although we wanted to nominate Steve Dubov because of his work with recycled glass, the category turned out to be for animation, video and computer art so we did turn in a nomination).
- Emerging Artist of the year – Heather Tolleson and Mary Thrasher Griffin
- Service to the Arts Award – Nelie Plourde and Stephen Dubov
- Austin Art Patron of the year – John and Jennifer Bird and Bill Keese
- Lifetime Achievement Award – David Priour and Don Snell
