Bronze/Aluminum Casting at Atelier 3-D

Beginning Thursday night, March 26, Atelier 3-D will offer aluminum casting as well as bronze. It’s a great opportunity to learn and practice the ancient lost wax casting process while creating a bronze or aluminum sculpture. Starting with a clay or wax sculpture (figurative or abstract) each person makes an investment mold and wax positive, sprues and vents their piece, then casts it in metal and chases. The cost, $265 includes most tools, clay, wax and investment materials, as well as patina chemicals. This class is limited to 10 students. There is a 20 pound limit per piece. The price of the metal fluctuates and is an additional charge.  If you pre-register and pay there’s a 10% discount; if you bring a friend there’s a 20% discount.

Texas Biennial 2009 Exhibit

Continues through April 11: Texas Biennial 2009 Exhibit – various venues in Austin.

The grand opening of the 2009 Texas Biennial was March 6th, 7th & 8th – the third since it’s inception in 2005. With each exhibition, the Biennial project has provided a fresh perspective on the scope of Texas contemporary art. This year is no different and should provide the people of Texas and beyond with rewarding and enriching visual arts experiences for its 5-week run in six gallery venues and seven outdoor spaces.

The 2009 Texas Biennial will encourage conversations amongst artists, curators, writers and art lovers. With our guest curator, Michael Duncan, the Texas Biennial will represent 73 artists this Spring: 61 group exhibition artists split into 2 themed exhibitions at Women & Their Work and the new gallery at the Mexican American Cultural Center, 4 regional solo artists at MASS Gallery, Big Medium, Pump Project Art Complex, and Okay Mountain, 7 temporary outdoor artists sprinkled throughout Austin parkland, and 1 tribute artist whose work will be woven into the 2 group exhibition spaces. For more information and maps to all the venues visit texasbiennial.com

Often our bank accounts don’t match the spirit of our generosity. Donations of time are just as significant. We invite those who have an interest in being a part of the Texas Biennial and Texas art scene, to provide a few hours a week to assist with the tremendous labor effort that the Biennial requires. For more information, please contact Hannah Roberts.
