Sculpture Festival Follow-upSculptfest 2004 hosted a record number of visitors - 2,830. That number does not include the 50 sculptors and an estimated 50 helpers, museum volunteers and staff. This year's attendance is nearly 1,000 more than in the previous two years. 1,897 persons attended in 2002 and 1,820 in 2003.*The sunny weather and wonderful advertising helped make the event so successful. The Austin-American Statesman printed 300,000 Austin Museum Day wrappers for their Thursday paper and gave TSOS an inexpensive wrap AND they named Sculptfest as its "Sunday Best Bet:! Channel 8 gave 'early and often' coverage of the event. Theresa Bayer, SculptFest Co-Chair with assistance from Aimee Bobruk worked very hard on publicity that resulted in greater Austin Museum Day and SculptFest attention. TSOS would like to thank the following fabulous individuals for making SculptFest a success: Marla Ripperda: SculptFest Chair, Publicity: Theresa Bayer and Aimee Bobruk (Aimee also rranged the wonderful music), Food/hospitality for artists: Pat Galvin, Children's Corner: Al Carp, Richard Von Hatten, Derek Brooks, Terence and Gina***, Ripperda, Jennifer Woodruff, Mary Wolcott. Richard also purchased the clay and paid other bills. General help: Katrina Ripperda, Rose Farmer and Ruth Baker who also made name tags for artists. Take-down: Gilbert Barrera, Terence, Gina and Katrina Ripperda. ASC volunteers who promoted and signed up people for classes: Steve Dubov, Bobby Pearl, Nancy Cardozier, Mary Paige Huey and Terry Wilemon. *TSOS would especially like to thank Nelie Plourde at Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum for providing us with a wonderful venue. Museum staff Marjorie Van Beekum, Laura Wells and Nelie generously helped out in a myriad of ways before, during and after the show. We appreciate the work of the following Umlauf volunteers: Becky Ballou, Charlotte Boyle, Vanessa Davis, Ruxandra Dumitriu, Cheryl Goveia, John Marino, Allyson Pease, and Jan Roberts. The Sculptfest artists thank Nelie and USG&M for being such great hosts! TSOS MEMBER & SCULPTURE NEWSBobby Pearl has been appointed Director of the Austin Sculpture Center.
