TSOS welcomes our new webmaster: graphic designer and fine artist Marilyn Fenn.

In the past few years Marilyn¹s web designs have garnered her several awards, including 2004 Texas Interactive Media Award and 2003-2004 Golden Web Award.

In the field of graphic arts, she also does advertising, illustration, animation, and logo design. Her business experience is extensive: "Marilyn has worked for major Fortune 500 corporations and medium-size local companies, academic, health, and government institutions, and has free-lanced for one-person outfits, small businesses, and medium-size associations and institutions." *

In the realm of fine arts, Marilyn does oil paintings, drawings, and pastels of representational landscapes, abstracts, and still lifes. Here is a quote from her artist¹s statement:

"Exploring color, form and space have been enduring issues for me. I'm fascinated by the possibility of discovering a place where realism and abstraction meld. In the search for that place, my paintings have evolved into 3 bodies of work which are equally compelling for me, each with their own challenges and rewards: still lifes, landscapes, and abstraction." **

TSOS Thanks Kelly Borsheim

Kelly Borsheim has resigned as webmaster, and has passed the torch to artist and designer Marilyn Fenn (see article, this page). TSOS is deeply grateful to Kelly for all the time, energy, and skill she has given our website, www.tsos.org

Thanks to Kelly's web skills TSOS members now have international visibility. She designed a free member web page, which gives each of our members an opportunity to showcase 6 images of their sculpture and to post their resumes, bios, and artist statements. Each web page has contact info, and its own email box. Many of our members have taken advantage of this wonderful opportunity, which has made it possible for them to market their work directly to collectors.

TSOS would also like to thank Kelly for all the other service she has given us over many years. Not only did she do an outstanding job as Webmaster, she also held several other executive offices: Vice President, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, and board member. TSOS owes Kelly a big debt of thanks for all the years that she gave her time and energy to this organization--helping it improve its effectiveness, finances, community, and member participation.

Kelly is now devoting all her energies to her art career. We wish her much luck and continued success!

Dear Members of TSOS,

Thank you for allowing me to be your Webmaster and for putting up with my travel schedule that slowed me down in recent times when creating your pages.

When professional sculptor Jim Thomas suggested in 1997 that TSOS needed a Web site and I should be the one to create it, I was not sure whether I was flattered or terrified. As some of you may remember, I joined TSOS in 1995 when my sculpture instructor Jon Formo asked me to stay after class at the Elisabet Ney Sculpture Conservatory in Austin for a TSOS group meeting. TSOS had been organizing a foundry tour of Deep in the Heart Art Foundry in Bastrop. I knew nothing about bronze, but my B&W photos of the wax room and foundry landed me a request to become the TSOS newsletter editor, taking over from one of TSOS founders, Mary Paige Huey. I was new and pretty green, but the people at TSOS were very encouraging.

Before long, I held 4 positions on the TSOS board -- VP Membership (database), Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, and in 1997, Webmaster. I learned a lot in those years and met so many of you. Thank you. Being such an active member in this organization enhanced the speed with which I made connections and learned about sculpture resources. I encourage you to get more involved as well.

But now, my art career needs my full attention and while I will never forget the connections I made via TSOS, it is time for me to pass on the torch. Years ago, I had allowed others the opportunity to serve on the board as I relinquished my various posts and now Austin-based artist Marilyn Fenn has stepped forward to become your new TSOS Webmaster. She is well qualified and knows more about computers and site design than I ever will. Please give her your support.

So thank you again. Stay in touch, if you like. Peace and happy sculpting,

Kelly Borsheim

Beth Schoen, Kathleen Wilson sharing studio at Las Americas Gallery

"Self Portrait" by Kathleen Wilson

TSOS members Beth Schoen and Kathleen Wilson have found new sculpture studio space at Las Americas Gallery with Augusto Brocca.

Brocca, a native Peruvian who came to Austin in the 70s on a UT scholarship to study art and anthropology, is a prolific painter and sculptor who has worked in his studio and gallery on east 6th street for eight years. His paintings remain true to Peruvian form, blending a dream-like quality with a harmony of color, and his sculpture is like no other: using cement, metal, glass and mosaic. His work has been shown througout the southwest U.S. and Peru, and he has filled numerous public and private commissions. See

Beth uses part of the large workroom to teach portrait sculpting classes on Thursday mornings, and beginning this fall, Las Americas Gallery will begin offering Visiting Masters' Workshops. Contact Beth through www.bethschoen.com for more information on classes and future Master's workshops. Suggestions are welcome.
