About Nancy Pollock
When I left Kansas for New York a friend’s child asked me if things in Kansas really were black and white. That was insightful. I spent 30 colorful and creative years in New York City. My friends were designers, actors and architects and I found my niche in a love of color and texture used in mathematical order. Weaving and knitting became my passion. I wove tapestries for PanAm and then tapestry coats and sweaters for celebrities. When fashion became too much of a business, I went to work doing perfume launches for my customers, Elizabeth Taylor, Cher, and Catherine Deneuve.
Following New York, we moved to a small coastal town in South Carolina where I began ten years of mosaic art. My work was exhibited in one woman shows in South Carolina, Stuart, Florida and Atlanta.
Mosaic is still a part of my portfolio, but I have largely returned to textiles in the form of ropes coiled in silks and wools.
Artist’s Statement
Color and texture are the first considerations in my art. They dictate the form and the direction of each individual piece. My career in the arts began with knitting and weaving soft, flowing fabrics for fashion. I spent a decade in mosaic, using hard materials in bright colors and patterns for interiors. Today I have returned to fiber in forms that are both soft and structured. My technique is coiling, which is tightly wrapping fibers around a central core of rope or yarn.
